Associate Degrees

Obtaining an associate degree in a specific field of study is the stepping stone to kick-start a career. There are several community colleges (financed by public funds) and junior colleges (privately run) that award these degree programs to students. Colleges in United States offer an associate’s degree programs in three major fields of study – Associate of Arts Degree, Associate of Applied Science Degree and Associate of Science Degree.

Groups of Students who pursue these Degree Programs

There are three groups of students who choose to enroll into an associate degree program, via campus mode or online/distance education mode. The first group is those students who are looking to occupy entry level positions and do not want to enroll into a bachelor’s degree program. The second group is that which first wants to attend a community or a junior college and then transfer to a four year college. The third group of students is that which does not want to pursue a degree and choose the option of ‘continuing education’ to take classes in multiple subjects.

Benefits of Earning an Associate’s Degree

Candidates choose to earn an associate’s in various subjects for multiple benefits. First and foremost, these degree programs are quite cost efficient, as the tuition fees for these programs is much lower than the tuition fees charges by four year colleges.

Since these degree programs take two years for completion, candidates enroll into these programs to save a lot of time. Another benefit that earning this degree brings is that skilled professionals can obtain the degree program in a specified discipline for occupying high-paying jobs. Yet another advantage that candidates get is convenience. A large number of colleges in the United States offer these degrees. Students can easily enroll into one of these programs locally. Community colleges offer associate degrees both via campus mode and online mode.

Community and junior colleges in the US have earned a good reputation all over. For a maximum number of entry level jobs, an associate degree can help students in starting their careers. Due to this fact, the number of such colleges is also increasing in number with each passing day.
